A new me...

I started this blog to review books - but it turns out, I'm useless at remembering to write reviews. So, I figured I'd use it for something else.

I still love books, so there'll be reviews popping up. But I've decided to use this as my catalyst for changing my entire lifestyle. Since August, I've been a member of Slimming World and I've actually started going to the gym. In the last few weeks, I've been failing at both of these things. So, I figured, maybe putting this blog out there (even if nobody will read it), will give me the motivation I need to actually improve my lifestyle.

This isn't going to be a weight loss and diet blog. This is just going to be my life, the ins and outs, my books, the TV series and films I watch. The places I go, the things I eat and wear. Everything.

So, my name is Kate and welcome to Anatomy of a Bookshelf.

Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3) by Sarah J Maas

Lost and broken, Celaena Sardothien’s only thought is to avenge the savage death of her dearest friend: as the King of Adarlan’s Assassin, she is bound to serve this tyrant, but he will pay for what he did. Any hope Celaena has of destroying the king lies in answers to be found in Wendlyn. Sacrificing his future, Chaol, the Captain of the King’s Guard, has sent Celaena there to protect her, but her darkest demons lay in that same place. If she can overcome them, she will be Adarlan’s biggest threat – and his own toughest enemy.

While Celaena learns of her true destiny, and the eyes of Erilea are on Wendlyn, a brutal and beastly force is preparing to take to the skies. Will Celaena find the strength not only to win her own battles, but to fight a war that could pit her loyalties to her own people against those she has grown to love.

Published September 2nd 2014 by Bloomsbury

So, anyone who  knows me will know of my intense love of Sarah J Maas and her novels. And Heir of Fire did not disappoint. It picks up where Crown of Midnight left off, with Celaena in Wendlyn trying (and not really caring) about assassinating the royal family. Chaol trying to come to terms with finding out who exactly Celaena is and Dorian just trying to get over Chaol sending Celaena away.

Now, this book is completely amazing. It left me in a quivering mess on the floor. There are highs, there are lows, there are TOO MANY feelings involved. At the opening Celaena is mourning over the loss of Nehemia and her life in Rifthold, including her relationship with Chaol. It's the first few chapters from Celaena's view where we witness how much of a mess she is. She's become self destructive and it's awful to read how much she's begun to resent herself for what happened in Crown of Midnight.  The only way she begins her recovery is with her hard-won friendship with new character Rowan Whitethorn. Who has sass coming out of his pointy fae ears. It's a bromance for all ages.

And Manon is completely badass. I don't want to say much more than that. Because she is. Maas just knows how to create strong, intriguing female characters.

I completely recommend this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
